I like teaching Ctrl+Alt+Del for shutdown since they already use that for login. (I keep the shortcuts on a flash drive for easy reference.) This is easily fixed with a bit of modification to Power Options and/or addition of custom Shut Down and Restart shortcuts. The ONLY consistent complaint I've run into is lack of obvious Shutdown and Restart commands. Show them how to pin what they access the most, explain how to find the rest (Windows Key, type your search string, click on the appropriate result), and turn 'em loose. The Start Screen is far more customizable than any Start Menu ever dreamed of being. In fact, without exception, every user has walked away liking Windows 8 better than Windows 7 or Windows XP.

You've already spent more money messing around on this than is necessary (time = money) when all it takes is 10 minutes (or less) to train a user in the differences between Windows 8 and Windows 7. I gave some bad advise about downgrade right and user bought Windows 8 Pro Pack for $69.99 and then we found out we don't have downgrade right.

User bought a laptop with Windows 8 home for work use.
